PennDOT Weight Restriction on Church RD Bridge

In November, the Township received the following notification from PennDOT regarding the imposition of a 16 ton weight limit for the bridge crossing a tributary of the Perkiomen Creek on Church Road near the Camelot Park entrance south of State Road.      Although the Township did not receive follow-up communications from PennDOT or an official Detour notification, the weight restriction signs were posted as of February 2, 2024.    The default detour route for Trucks in excess of 16 tons is Kutztown Road to Route 100.

This is to inform you that the bridge carrying Church Road (SR 1042) over Branch Perkiomen Creek (Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County) will soon carry a reduced weight limit of 16 Tons (32,000 lbs.) except combinations 26 tons (54,000 lbs.) under Section §4902(a) of the PA Vehicle Code. An engineering study determined the weight limit based on its structural condition, taking into account the extensive deterioration of this bridge.

All overweight vehicles requesting permission to cross this bridge must fill out Application Form M-4902 for review and approval, and submit it to:
